PeakFinder App Reviews

Simple like the old methods

Wonderful app. Tested it out twice this week in Cherokee, Nantahala, and Pisgah National Forests. The first time I did the quick hike up to the Devils Courthouse off of the Blue Ridge Parkway I was fascinated by the little bronze peak finding tool the NPS had installed at the top. This is that same tool, but in my pocket, at the top of any ridge, peak or overlook I decide to stop at.

Awesome

I live on a mountain and have always been curios as to how tall it is. I found out that it is 967 feet tall and is called Griffin mountain. It is in Virginia. Also, I recommend Mount Rushmore and Everest.

Stunning

This recent iteration of PeakFinder has it all. Locations the world over, for use on site or for planning. With an astronomy program, use it to plan a location for a sun/moon rise/set photo, getting the location right the first time. Great tool and travel companion. Bravo!

Great app! Top in its class!

Very fun, rewarding app for the topographically inquisitive among us! Extremely easy to use after just a few minutes of (mostly self) instruction. Highly recommended!

Simple,clean, and fast!

We love this app!!! If you like driving, hiking or camping in the mountains, explore and plan from the comfort of your home before you go. The fact is this way of looking at the mountains is fantastic and very fun. Thank you for a great tool. From somewhere in the Oregon Coast Range happy trails to you.

Want my money back

Dont waste your money. Very disappointed in the app.

Great App

I used it in Colorado and Wyoming, which made all the difference as I stood transfixed in front of some of those magnificent peaks. The operation was easy, the app seamless. Looking forward to using it in the Appalachian mountain area too.

Dont waste your money!

This is the worst app that I ever purchased. It does not work. I live in the mountains in Colorado, and the maps are extremely inaccurate, and it does not even name every mountain nearby. Also, whenever I hike, and I click the "reload" button, the application pulls up my original map from my house, which is miles and/or hours and/or in a completely different national forest from when I originally downloaded the application. Dont waste your money!

Sorry

So far a huge disappoint. Always having to start from scratch with it. Inaccurate identification if it does anything. Money back, please!

Meh.

You could do without it. Downloaded it out of curiosity due to all the great reviews but its definitely overhyped.

Awesome but lacking

An exceptional app that is excellent for orientation. The shortfall is that we exist in smaller spaces than 30 miles away exist a mountain named Whatever. My immediate environment is what interest my. What the eye see is what lacks. Living in Arizona, 100+ mile line of sight is the norm. It has its place but I will await something that has a perimeter ring that l define what I want to know about. I do really like the feature that allows to adjust view dependent on elevations. Still a favorite but rather than loading every peak from Ca, Nev, Az and Utah, maybe just my area.

Great app

Needs option to "ignore topography within X miles". Other than that, super. When driving, Ill see peaks that are "covered" by local topography, so the app hides them.

Awesome!!!

So happy I have this app for going up in the mountains.

I LOVE THIS APP!

Ive used peak identification apps before and this is the best of them all. I mean WAY better. The reason is most peak identification apps use augmented reality to superimpose peak names over your live camera image but the peak names rarely match up with the image. Its just not precise enough. This app does something unique by actually rendering the surrounding landscape and displaying the peak names over that image instead. It does an amazing job rendering the landscape. It is incredible. The accuracy of the render is very impressive. I also love how easy it is to change the viewpoint. I may use the GPS to set my current location and then decide that I want to see what the view is from a neighboring peak and it is as easy as two taps on the screen, one tap to open the binoculars and another tap to change the viewpoint. I hike a few hundred miles a year and I highly recommend this app!

Its ok

We paid for and downloaded the app to see the names of the ranges near our home in MT. Its ok. I was expecting something more like Starfinder with interactive info on the star system and Galaxy. This gives you a rudimentary outline of the peaks based upon north and south orientation. It only names major peaks and seems to lose its positioning frequently. Its ok. Id love to have the developer improve it.

Great for traveling overland!

I find this app most helpful in choosing a route over the mountains when we travel hauling our RV during late fall and winter. I also will consult when considering RV campsites! It gets cold up there in the clouds! For the price (free), you cant beat it! Its not fancy, but seems pretty accurate!

Simple, elegant.

Ive used other apps to identify peaks before. This app is by far the easiest and most intuitive to use. If you are like me and just have to know the name of every peak you can see out your window, I highly recommend PeakFinder. A must have in Colorado.

Mountaineering Companion

Excellent tool for finding peaks of interest. I use it for Summits on the Air, a Ham Radio activity.

Love it!

Its let me identify distant peaks, some Ive wondered about for years.

Terrible app!

Dont waste your money. Inaccurate. Doesnt work at times. Even when updated its just wrong.
