PeakFinder App Comentários

Utile comoda e semplice

Graficamente non è il massimo però è facile da usare

Awesomeness!

Love this app! So great to learn on!

Bonus feature: moon/sun rise/set

I love the option to turn on the arcs of the sun and moon! I use this feature to virtually scout viewing locations and knowing when to expect celestial bodies to crest the “practical” horizon.

Doesn’t Really Work

Downloaded and tried to use in WV with lots of prominent peaks nearby and visible. It showed a couple of lesser peaks and not much else. Also the graphic indicating peaks was many, many degrees off. I’m sorry I wasted five bucks on this worthless app.

Impressive

Ever look at the horizon and wonder what mountain/hill you are seeing? Now you can. With this app you can match the contours you see on the screen to the mountain tops in real life. It accurately shows you the mount tops you are looking at. Can very useful when you are hiking and trying to get your bearings (but always bring a paper map for back up!) or to learn what you are looking at when you get on top of that peak!

Incredible App!

I’m obsessed with this app. As an avid outdoors-person and backpacker, this shares invaluable information not just about peaks, but the path of the sun and moon, with rise and set times and *where* they will rise and set. All of this info can be set up to be viewed offline (make sure to select the locations from the quadrants given for download)! Awesome awesome app.

Great App

This is highly useful for Landscape Photography and Hiking interest and outdoors nature enthusiast. I live around mountains and on rare days when there is clear skies I like to be in the sunlight during the winter and that’s hard find. The app tracks where the sun and moon are from any point you choose geographically. You can easily plan where the rise or set alignment of those celestial body’s will be relative to land features around your point selection. If you wish to share a live landscape photo with the peaks labeled you can do that, and for long thru hike trips you can locate which peak is which in the far distance, and this is also useful for map navigation . If you’re cleaver you can use your screen video record to show the peaks labeled live as you pan the horizon. You don’t need internet connection while using this app.

Fun

Really helped and enjoyable

Great idea. Needs some polish

When it works, it’s good. Takes forever to ping my location. Data is frequently off by 20 degrees or so when it finally does pull up the right map. For example, I will point it at a known peak and it will tell me I am looking at the next peak over.

Perfect

Really love this tool. I use it every day in my mountains in southern Colorado.

I love this APP!

It’s great yo use, either in the field or from the couch.

Excellently executed app

This app does a great job of presenting a large amount of data in an accessible manner. I’m amazed at the detail they have. I never knew several of the smaller hills and lower peaks on the mountains around me had names. I appreciate the links to where they got that data as well. On that note, the only thing I can think of that would make it better is the ability to add the local names of peaks. It’s a bit jarring to see peaks you’ve climbed a hundred times and looked at every day with names you’ve never heard of.

Great App but

Great app but I really find the interface confusing. I stumble through getting an overlay on a camera view, taking a pic and saving it to my camera role. It seems tha camera blanks out or the MT Range traces disappear …. When it works it is great. I also Hate the way it loads data. I am in Sicily now with limited Data access. I visited Etna, and even though I downloaded the data when I had wifi and was a few miles away, the app wanted to download data. I said “no” . It asked me again. I said “no” It asked me again……. And even though I said NO over and over it continued to download my data and used my entire roaming allocation. That ruined my day as I lost access to google maps etc.

Nice app & feature request

This app works well and is fun and interesting. One feature request would be to add a setting for a compass ‘offset’. My device has a bogus compass that I cannot calibrate properly (tried many things short of buying a new phone) and if I could just add in a correction factor that would be great!

I want to love this app

Does not settle on the peak.

Spectacular performance

This app is simple, easy to use and is often updated. It is a quintessential app core to my best apps.

The Best

This app is so well maintained and improved. A joy to use wherever you go.

Worth every penny and way more

This is a fantastic app!! As another reviewer said, it’s a joy to use. I pull this app out constantly while hiking and I know all the peaks that I can see in my area now. I love this app!! Can’t recommend it enough!

Save Your Time.

This app has not worked in the entire NW.

Way Overrated App!!! Doesn’t work!

Got this because I live in central California right by the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range off of the 99 and 5 Freeways. Where I am at, you can see the string of 14ers, starting with Mt. Langley. The app does NOT detect any of them. Also, was just on the 97 in NorCal with Mt. Shasta literally hulking right next to me on the Freeway. No dice!!! It did not detect it. It has only ever picked up little mountains that you are close to. I thought maybe I was too far away, but when I was right next to Shasta and the app didn’t detect it, I was pretty much done with it.

Doesn’t work

Doesn’t show me any mountains

Often shows wrong peaks

It seems 30-70’ off all the time

Outstanding

Peak Finder has been my go to application now for identifying mountain peaks all over the world both on the ground and in ‘ far away’ locations. Its cool to take a picture of a mountain scene and then, later on, identify the mountain peaks. The application has served well both on the ground and remotely in South America, Africa and North America. Keep up the good work!

Poor peak location

I know where certain peaks are and this app is off. That is terrible

Muh

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t

Not good with the new update

I would recommend not to update the app. It is not accurate anymore. And really hard to read any mountain now. They should of never made any changes.

Can’t download required files, can’t request refund

I’m here in the Himalayas bought this app and for an entire day have been trying to download the 248 require file. It won’t progress pass 1%. Meanwhile I can watch YouTube, download this app, and rate obviously but the file will not download. I want a refund but can’t request one. Unacceptable

Do not buy

I live in the Green Mountains of Vermont and this app has not been accurate a single time.

So confused

Massive mountains right in front of me in Boulder Colorado. All the app shows is a flat line of no foothills - which is true , but no identification of the mountain peaks Then I try to add a photo to this comment and “paste” is NOT an option Maybe my bad. Maybe the apps bad

Works well internationally too…

I use this in the US a lot, and was delighted how well it has worked in other countries. I kept wondering which volcanoes i was seeing in Guatemala, a quick download of software and there you go, now you know. One of the best outdoors app I’ve purchased. Thanks.

Does not Id tall peaks in my view!

Smaller peaks are labeled…

I overslept

When I got this app the spider diabetic illness kicked in then I went to slevertopio for eternity then I slept in great app

Useless

Bummed that I paid $5 for this app and it is completely useless.

A nice app but could use a filter

The camera feature is great for areas that don’t have many mountains, but using it in the Pacific Northwest makes it incredibly difficult due to the number of peaks. The app could really use a filter feature, for example hiding mountains over 50 miles away, less than 2500 feet, etc. I searched for this option on the app and couldn’t find it. If it’s there, they could make it easier to find.

Complicated.

As with most other apps, they start out simple and easy to use. Then they develop them further and only the young people can understand them. You have three categories of people under 45, under 70, and older. This happens like all the others and a piece of crap. But used to be easy and be able to see amount and easy is now a complicated piece of nonsense. I tried today the hiking one and I can’t even figure out how to stop the hike or turn it off what a piece of crap

Neat if it works

App worked great when I first downloaded it. Lately it seem to not know where I am. Attempted to use it in the Beartooths recently and it’s showing some hills that weren’t at my location. Currently trying to use it in the Missions and it’s not actually showing what I’m looking at.

I’d love a refund

This app doesn’t work for me. It’s so far off in location and shows me so many irrelevant peaks I can’t tell what I’m looking at. And, I’m unable to see the ones I know are right in front of me. Too Bad.

Disappointing

Peakvisor is leagues better than this app. I wasted $5.

Indispensable in your the white mountains

I love this app! It even overlays the peaks with the photograph, almost magical!

Can't find mountain names

When I'm in the Sawatch Mountains in Colorado, the app can not find the mountain name when I'm standing one half mile from it with a clear view of the entire peak. Location services are on and I have a full cell signal. I've tried half a dozen times and the only place it can identify peaks is when I'm standing on my front porch.

What I’ve always wanted - in app form!

I’ve been a very satisfied Peak Finder user for many years. I’m usually one to write reviews, but this app is cool that I want to. So many times over the years I’d sit on a mountaintop, staring out at a vista, and think “wouldn’t it be cool if the mountain names could just pop up above the peaks??”. Peak Finder does just that! It’s really pretty incredible that I can carry this technology in the palm of my hand out in the wilderness. You can also take photos with the labels on them, and even get the names of further off peaks by zooming in on the saved pic later. If you love the outdoors and maps, do yourself a favor and get this app! Also, the price is low and worth every penny.

Night Photographer’s Dream Come True

This is by far the best, most accurate app for planning night photography utilizing moonlight. I’ve used this app for photographing moonrises and moon sets next to mountains peaks with pinpoint accuracy.

The app doesn’t recognize direction properly

I have to keep adjusting the view that the app provides with my finger because when I move the phone around it doesn’t show the actual mountain. It’s actually somewhere in the back not where it supposed to be. I did the compass calibration many times and it doesn’t help if I am in the area that I’m not familiar with. I have no clue what mountain am I looking at only if I’m sure of the mountain, then I could adjust the view by swiping left or right to show the correct peaks. This is an iPhone 14 pro max.

Clients live this app

I do interior design in the mountains. When you can go out with the client and take a picture of their view and provide them with the names of the mountains they are looking at it is an awesome moment!!

Always wrong

Not even close. Always wrong. Do not pay money for this app.

Know your mountains

First Ap that actually works in Colorado. Great way to learn your mountain ranges.

No names

Driving in TN, I see lots of mountains but no names! Lookout mountain is obvious but none are named on my screen. Rats!

Bagging peaks and spreading cheeks

This app is seriously the best.

One of my favorite apps

There are very few apps out there that do their job so well you barely notice them. Almost every app has some little niggle. This is one of those apps. One of its best features is actually its secondary feature: sun and moon path representation. If you ever want to know “when is the sun going to hit my tent” or “where do I have to be so the moon rises behind that mountain for my perfect photo”, this is the app for you. One of the top negative reviews has to do with aligning peaks. Unfortunately, that user probably has used magnetic phone mounts and screwed up their hardware. I’m on my >=10th iPhone and this is the first time I’ve had any issues (MagSafe is pretty good at balancing that effect, but not perfect). True, there’s no image detection with auto alignment, but the line drawing is clear and easy to match up. This is especially useful in areas where the DEM just isn’t accurate. (The other comment about screenshots is many years out of date.) I bought this app for cheap years ago and it was easily one of my best purchases ever.

A pain to use

Its drawings of peaks not photo so hard to tell which peak the app is indicating. Also it doesn’t show peak right in front of me. It shows peak farther out than I can see.
